CFAO Mobility Kenya has introduced the ninth generation Toyota Hilux into the Kenyan market, bringing a redesigned pickup that combines increased cabin technology, improved comfort and familiar off-road capability. The locally assembled model was unveiled in Nairobi on October 29, 2026, under the campaign name “New Shujaa”.

The new Hilux is initially available in a 2.8-litre Double Cab automatic configuration, offered in Mid and High specifications. The Mid variant retails at KSh 7.87 million, while the High specification costs KSh 10.84 million.

Both versions use Toyota’s 2.8-litre 1GD turbo diesel engine, producing 150kW and 500Nm of torque. Power is delivered through a six-speed automatic transmission with Eco, Normal and Sport driving modes. The pickup also features four-wheel drive, Multi-Terrain Select, a rear differential lock and Downhill Assist.

With 312mm of ground clearance, a payload capacity of approximately one tonne and a braked towing capacity of 3,500kg, the Hilux retains its appeal to businesses and motorists who require a vehicle capable of handling demanding working conditions. CFAO quotes fuel efficiency of approximately 12km per litre.

The cabin receives notable upgrades, with the High specification offering a 12.3-inch infotainment screen, leather seats and a 360-degree camera, compared with the Mid variant’s eight-inch display and fabric seats.

Speaking during the launch, CFAO Mobility Kenya Managing Director Arvinder Reel said, “The Hilux has earned the trust of generations of Kenyan customers because it has consistently delivered what they need to get the job done.”

The new model continues CFAO’s local Hilux assembly programme, which resumed in Kenya in 2019. The company says the vehicle has been adapted to local conditions, including heat, dust, rainfall and demanding roads.

The launch comes amid growing demand for pickups. Industry figures presented by CFAO show that Kenyan pickup sales increased by 52.6 per cent to 2,949 units between January and August 2026.

CFAO plans to expand the range in 2027 with the introduction of 2.4-litre and Single Cab versions.
